Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Is euthanasia the only service you offer?

Yes, this is my sole focus. I found that by dedicating my practice entirely to end-of-life care, I can be there for families when they need me most.

What parts of New York do you travel to?

I travel to homes within a 20 mile radius of Lake George, NY.  If you reside outside that radius, special arrangements can be made which will incur additional costs.  Please contact me at peacefulpawsveterinary@gmail.com or (518) 321-8236.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancelations up to 4 hours in advance of the appointment are free of charge. If for any reason you need to cancel less than 4 hours before your appointment, a $125 cancellation fee is applied.

I am looking to euthanize my pet due to behavioral issues. Will you do that?

Unfortunately I do not provide behavioral euthanasia. Please contact your regular veterinarian for behavior related euthanasia.

Who can be present during the visit?

Any family member is welcome to be present during the visit. It is up to the discretion of the family if they want young children present.

How long will the appointment take?

Appointment times generally last about 45 to 60 mins depending on your needs.

One of the advantages of home euthanasia is that the process can unfold gently, without any sense of urgency. I take the time to get to know you and your pet, ensuring that all questions are answered and any concerns are fully addressed before we begin.

When everyone feels ready, your pet will first receive a sedative to promote deep relaxation and comfort. This medication typically takes 10 to 30 minutes to take full effect. Once your pet is peacefully resting in a deep sleep, a second and final injection will be administered to provide a humane and painless passing.

If you choose to have your pet cremated, you will have as much time as you need for final goodbyes before we gently transport them to the vehicle.

Where will the procedure take place?

I am happy to help your pet pass wherever feels most peaceful for you and your pet—whether that is indoors on a favorite bed, in the backyard, or in another meaningful location. The only requirements are a comfortable space where you and your pet can relax and adequate lighting for the procedure.

Can I hold my pet during the procedure?

Absolutely. We will work together to make the procedure as easy and comfortable for everyone involved.

Should my other pets be present for the procedure?

This decision is entirely up to you. In many cases, it is less stressful and distracting to keep other pets in a separate area during the procedure, allowing the family to spend quiet, focused time with the companion we are there to help. Once he or she has passed, their furry friends can be brought in to participate in the grieving process. However, if you prefer to have other pets present throughout, I am happy to support whatever feels right for your family.

Can I feed my pet prior to the visit?

Yes! Your pet is welcome to have whatever he/she desires prior to the visit.

What happens after we said our goodbyes?

If you choose home burial, I will gladly assist you in any way to help move your companion to their final resting place.

If you choose cremation, I or with the help of a family member will gently carry your companion to the vehicle. From there, I will ensure proper transition to our partners at Final Gift for cremation.

Will you notify our veterinarian?

Yes. Dr Jones will reach out to your veterinarian to inform them of your pet's passing.

If I chose Private Cremation - How will the ashes be returned to me and how long does it take?

It takes about 1 week for the ashes to be returned to you. You can choose 2 options of how your pet will be returned to you:

  1. Ashes can be returned to the veterinary practice of your choice, at no charge. They will notify you when they have been received.

  2. Ashes can be returned in the mail at a charge of $35. Signature will be required.
